In a few weeks, the kids will be heading back to school, our pocketbooks will be feeling the squeeze as we spend money on clothing and essentials for back to school. We asked our friends and family where they go shopping and found a few sources that help keep the family budget intact. Here's our list of local events and shops for our budget minded families. Happy Shopping!
Consignment Shops are a haven of goodies, often you can find amazing deals on brand new clothing at huge savings and they are one of my favourite places to shop!! They also help to reinforce the idea about sustainability and why shopping second hand is beneficial to the environment.. win/win!!
Once Upon A Child
A fantastic location with shops around the city, OUAC offers families an affordable solution to shopping mainstream. We popped into the Sherwood Park location, to see what we could put together for school on a budget. In less than 20 minutes, the staff helped us to pick out several items including shoes to complete our ensembles, all under $30 and mostly name brained clothing.
INSIDER TIP: Look for the coloured sticker tags for big savings as much as 90% off! We found a boys Gap dress shirt, that was 90% off! Marked at 9.00 but with the sticker, it will sell for 0.90cents!! And sign up for their emails for promotion and sale dates
KIDS STUFF ETC/MY FAVOURITE AUNT'S
Another Edmonton favourite, this store is about to celebrate 39 years in business! It's a hidden gem on the south side of the city just off of 51st Avenue. The store itself is divided in two, half being Kids Stuff Etc.. and the other half is dedicated to adult clothing on the My Favourite Aunt's side of the shop, that also includes a home decor section!
On the right-hand side of the store is Kids Stuff Etc, clothing is sized from Newborn to size 6x, making it a great place for preschool families as they prepare for their early learning years. The store carries a good selection of shoes, clothing, books and backpacks.
Insider tip: Check the back by the consignment desk for their 50% off rack, items are regularly added. If you're shopping with your teen, I noticed they carried clothing from Hollister, Gap, and American Eagle, and a few pairs of Converse in their shoe section
LOLLIPOP PARADE CONSIGNMENT was started in April 2011 as an online store, they carry brand name children's clothing from size 2 through to size 16 for kids and teens, they're a great alternative to still shopping consignment from the comfort of your home and then pick up locations are arranged throughout the city. Visit their facebook page for details. We recommend going through their Notes section to get an idea of how to purchase or consign items. www.facebook.com/LollipopParade
